Job Summary:

As a Clinical Nurse Specialist at Kaiser Permanente, you will provide in-depth clinical expertise in a defined area of nursing practice, such as pediatrics, oncology, or adult medicine. You will develop and ensure quality standards for nursing practice for a specific patient population, providing advanced clinical practice education, consultation, research, and administration.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Establish and monitor care standards, making recommendations for changes in the area of clinical practice. Collaborate with nursing staff to assess patient, family, and age-specific nursing needs, and develop a plan of care for complex, high-risk patients.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of care provided.
  • Design teaching programs for patients/families and provide assistance to nursing staff in program implementation. Develop interdisciplinary plans of care for complex and high-risk patients, working with the healthcare team to assess staff knowledge and identify competency-based education needs.
  • Design and implement education programs to ensure the quality of staff knowledge and skills, introducing new techniques and innovations based on advanced practice trends. May serve as a preceptor to graduate healthcare students.
  • Provide consultation to physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers in meeting care needs of individual or groups of patients in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Make recommendations to change standards of care or standards of practice based on own research or the research of others.
  • Define and implement best nursing practices, assisting in interviewing staff and providing input into evaluations regarding clinical competence, and providing coaching and counseling.
  • Participate and consult in setting the direction for QA&I monitoring, establishing standards, and evaluating outcomes. Collect and analyze data regarding patient care outcomes, trends, morbidity, and mortality.
  • Access KP Health Connect to evaluate the quality of care provided, using it to manage clinical operations, monitor quality, appropriateness, and accuracy of documentation, and maintain role-specific competencies.
  • Ensure the implementation of a coordinated and effective discharge planning program.
  • Kaiser Permanente conducts compensation reviews of positions on a routine basis, reserving the right to reevaluate and change job descriptions or to change positions from salaried to hourly pay status.
