Job Description

GE Vernova is seeking a highly skilled Lead Field Service Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Power Conversion business, you will be responsible for the commissioning and service of GEPC Metals Projects, providing technical expertise and engineering solutions to support the metals business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform installation and commissioning of GE Power Conversion automation systems at customer sites in steel/aluminum/copper plants, mining, and under-construction plants.
  • Lead small teams and work unsupervised to resolve post-sales technical customer issues at customer sites with accuracy, quality, and timeliness.
  • Install and test field instruments, including pressure, flow, speed, motion, sensors, RTD, X-ray, laser scanners, and encoders.
  • Commission and service GE Rxi/HPCi controllers and Scada systems.
  • Perform FAT and PG tests with customers as per contract agreements.
  • Communicate and interface with third-party/customer systems.
  • Perform troubleshooting activities at site locations during scheduled visits or at site to diagnose problems, determine appropriate resolution, and implement corrective actions.

Requirements:

  • 2-year technical degree.
  • Minimum 5 years of field service or commissioning experience in a field service/commissioning environment with automation systems in metals/mining/cement/paper environments.
  • Ability and willingness to travel 85% of the time on short notice.
  • Ability to work long hours to complete upgrades within outage schedules.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Possesses a detailed knowledge, competence, and expertise with installation and commissioning tasks and services for automation.
  • Experience and working process knowledge in plants HSM/CRM/PLTCM/Plate Mill/Blast Furnace/Tinplate/Aluminium/Copper.
  • Programming skills in PLC/DCS/SCADA systems.
  • Experienced in communication protocols - Ethernet/Profibus/Modbus/Fieldbus/Ethercat, etc.
  • Experience with metal systems (automation, AC & DC drives, AGC, and Level 2).
  • Ability to learn and follow defined departmental policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills essential.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and organize work activities in order to meet business needs and department goals.

Work Environment:

The work environment at onsite locations is of a construction type setting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to hot and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, risk of trips, slips, and falls.
