About This Role

Denver Public Schools is seeking a highly skilled Instructional Specialist to join our team. As an Instructional Specialist, you will play a critical role in improving student achievement by providing individualized support to schools, leading professional learning communities for teacher leaders and school leaders, and designing and leading district professional learning for teachers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cultivate a deep understanding of and investment in Transformative Social Emotional Academic Learning (TSEAL) practices with key stakeholders in support of equity for all students.
  • Develop and facilitate cycles of professional learning in TSEAL for the District and its school teams to ensure schools meet measurable student outcomes tied to district priorities.
  • Facilitate learning cycles across schools, including collaboratively setting learning goals, engaging in observations and coaching participants.
  • Model exemplar culturally sustaining practices for teacher leaders, such as instructional planning at the unit and lesson level, data meetings and feedback conversations.
  • Analyze district local assessment data and classroom observations and use it to inform school support.
  • Work collaboratively to achieve actionable and observable results at the student level; contribute to a strong team culture grounded in district values and a commitment to excellence and service to schools.
  • In collaboration with the multilingual education team, develop professional learning and coaching opportunities for teachers and leaders on best practices for supporting the achievement of multilingual learners.
  • Support district curriculum adoption and implementation.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field preferred.
  • Four (4) or more years of teaching experience in a relevant subject area with at least two years of experience in coaching other teachers.
  • Four (4) or more years of previous experience working in an urban district with Multilingual Learners.
  • Proficiency with Google applications and Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Effectively handle multiple demands and competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Capacity and responsibility to be culturally responsive with an affirmative attitude toward cultural difference.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team in a collaborative, influential capacity.
  • Comfort and experience in working with diverse learning.
  • Lead for racial and educational excellence and work to dismantle systems of oppression and inequity in our community, along with believing in and supporting all students so they feel seen and heard with access to high quality education.
  • Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado while working with us.
  • Have the ability with or without accommodations to meet the physical demands of the position.
