Position Overview:

This position serves as a vital link between the artistic and technological aspects of our projects. The successful candidate will lead a dedicated team of technical artists, collaborating closely with programmers, designers, and artists to establish and maintain effective world-building and content pipelines, ensuring the seamless transition of assets from initial design to final implementation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide hands-on leadership, including task scoping, prioritization, and delegation.
  • Mentor and guide technical artists at various experience levels within the team.
  • Conduct performance reviews and offer constructive feedback to foster professional growth.
  • Work collaboratively with Engineering, Design, and Art teams to devise practical and efficient solutions for creating high-quality game environments.
  • Act as the primary stakeholder for the discipline, while also contributing individually to prototype, implement, and adopt new features that align with both technical specifications and artistic vision.
  • Oversee level creation within the engine and direct the team in developing tools and automation to enhance production efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot content creation challenges faced by artists and implement safeguards in the pipeline to reduce future issues.
  • Research and integrate new engine features into the production workflow as they become available.
  • Ensure the production of clear, maintainable code that adheres to established coding standards within the studio's code library.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive tools and workflow documentation.
  • Maintain effective communication with production teams, providing timely updates on task progress and any unforeseen issues that may affect timelines.
  • Identify performance bottlenecks and assist in optimizing art content for better efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • Required: A minimum of 6 years of professional experience in game development as an environment technical artist or pipeline technical director.
  • Required: Expertise in Unreal Engine, both as a power user and developer (Blueprint & C++), particularly in world-building and level design.
  • Required: Strong proficiency in Python, especially in tools and UI development (e.g., PyQt).
  • Required: Experience in runtime profiling and optimization, with a solid understanding of resource efficiency best practices.
  • Required: In-depth knowledge of asset creation workflows across various DCC tools (Maya, Blender, Substance, Houdini, ZBrush, etc.).
  • Preferred: Experience in procedural content generation workflows.
  • Preferred: A history of shipping at least one title using Unreal Engine.
  • Preferred: Previous team leadership or management experience.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with photogrammetry and scanned assets.
  • Bonus: Experience in shader programming.
  • Bonus: Knowledge of Maya API or plugin development.
