The Director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at St. David's North Austin Medical Center is responsible for ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care through oversight of the unit's overall function and staffing. This leadership position requires a strong clinical identity, with a focus on advancing patient safety and quality outcomes.
Key Responsibilities- Cultivate a superior clinical identity by identifying and implementing evidence-based practices to improve patient safety and quality outcomes.
- Manage variation in clinical practice to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and cost.
- Stay abreast of internal and external benchmarks, accreditations, and designations, and actively pursue efforts to achieve them.
- Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards, and develop and implement policies, procedures, and practices accordingly.
- Develop care coordination policies and procedures to promote improved quality, safety, and efficiency in care.
- Foster interdisciplinary communication and collaboration within and across departments, and ensure staff have the necessary clinical competencies to meet patient care needs.
- Direct nursing practice and unit operations, developing policies, procedures, and nursing standards to ensure patient and family needs are assessed, met, and evaluated.
- Provide leadership in attaining and sustaining an unparalleled patient experience, instilling accountability for providing consistent, positive patient interactions.
- Leverage various feedback mechanisms to benchmark performance and identify opportunities to improve customer/patient satisfaction.
- Foster a culture that inspires commitment to the organization's vision, mission, and values, ensuring employees are recognized, valued, and supported.
- Collaborate with administrative teams and physicians to enhance existing services or develop new service offerings.
- Participate in the annual budget process, including input into department revenue and expense forecasts, staffing, and supply and equipment needs.
- Bachelor's Degree or other approved education plan required.
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
- Master's Degree preferred.
- Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the state(s) of practice and/or has an active compact license, in accordance with law and regulation.
- BLS certification required.
- ACLS certification preferred.
- L&D: NRP preferred/FHM preferred/RNC-OB preferred.
- 1+ year of experience in healthcare required.
- 1+ year of experience in a leadership role required.
