Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Certified Surgical Technologist to join our team at CHRISTUS Health. As a key member of our perioperative team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparing and caring for pre-operative patients, maintaining aseptic techniques, and monitoring situations that could lead to breaches in aseptic technique.
  • Provide comfort and support for pre-operative patients, demonstrating sensitivity to their care and privacy.
  • Transport patients to and from the Operating Room suite, positioning them according to the type of surgery.
  • Identify and care for biological specimens, preparing the Operating Room by setting up tables, instruments, and supplies according to the type of case.
  • Meet expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Perform all processes related to the delivery of direct patient care and assistance care in the OR prior to and during any surgical procedure, under the direction of a professional nurse.
  • Establish and maintain the sterile field, pass instruments, and sutures to the physician, and assist as directed by the physician.
  • Use the physician preference card as a beginning point when pulling cases and setting up the OR, ensuring that preference cards are kept up to date and as complete as possible.
  • Work effectively as a member of the team caring for the patient, cooperating in team planning and execution, and maintaining a safe environment by implementing technical and aseptic practices.
  • Demonstrate clinical expertise in the use and care of all surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment, adhering to Universal Barrier Precautions for both patient and own safety in all patient care situations.
  • Maintain proper traffic control, dress codes, and adherence to OR sanitation policies and procedures, demonstrating competence to perform assigned patient care responsibilities in a manner that meets the population-specific and developmental needs of patients served by the department.

Requirements:

Education/Skills:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Completion of Surgical Technology program is required.

Experience:

  • 2 or more years of experience preferred.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:

  • BLS required.
  • Certification of Surgical Technologist from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting within 180 days of graduation or LVN/LPN License required.
