Overview

The Senior Mechanical Engineering Manager plays a pivotal role within the aerospace and technology sectors, possessing a wealth of experience in driving the development of advanced UAV systems and their associated subsystems. As a key member of the Engineering leadership team, this position is tasked with implementing the strategic technology roadmap essential for fostering business growth in a highly competitive landscape. Responsibilities encompass all stages of design, from requirements gathering and conceptualization to detailed design and system testing. This role is crucial in establishing a capable organization that aligns with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversees a team of mechanical, aerospace, and systems engineering professionals, including responsibilities for budget management, staffing, training, performance assessment, and career progression.
  • Offers guidance and mentorship to engineers across a diverse range of development initiatives.
  • Directs the design and advancement of new Unmanned Aircraft System products, as well as modifications and enhancements to existing products.
  • Actively contributes to ongoing projects while generating concepts and materials for new opportunities, including proposals.
  • Manages resources effectively to fulfill project requirements by planning workloads for aeromechanical design tasks.
  • Provides technical direction and support to ensure compliance with DfX (design for manufacturing, cost, reliability, maintenance, etc.) standards.
  • Maintains high levels of satisfaction among both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Employs modeling-based systems engineering and design methodologies.
  • Acts as a liaison between design, manufacturing, and quality engineering teams.
  • Regularly engages with customers and peer group managers on cross-functional matters.
  • Facilitates communication of business priorities related to the team's responsibilities to clarify vision and address risks.
  • Establishes and ensures adherence to budgets, timelines, and work plans.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is required.
  • A minimum of 12 years of experience in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Systems Engineering, including at least 5 years in designing, analyzing, and maintaining complex mechanical systems, with proven success in transitioning to hardware deployment.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a managerial or supervisory capacity.
  • In-depth knowledge of aerospace mechanical systems, particularly aerostructures, flight control systems, propulsion systems, and composite materials.
  • Proficient in CAD software for 3D modeling and 2D drafting (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Experienced in configuration management within a PLM-based system (Agile preferred).
  • Familiar with requirements development and management (JAMA preferred).
  • Proven experience in developing systems test plans, procedures, and reports in accordance with internal and customer specifications in an Aerospace and Defense context.
  • Demonstrated accountability and success in delivering products that meet specifications on time and within budget.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Systems Engineering is preferred.
  • Demonstrated success with DoD acquisition or development programs.
  • Proficient in transforming developed concepts into high-quality, manufacturable designs.
  • Experience in implementing Agile methodologies and tools (JIRA) for planning, tracking progress, and enhancing efficiency.
  • Willingness and ability to obtain a Secret Clearance/US citizenship is preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in both office and production environments (Constant).
  • Capability to support field testing and integration tasks (Infrequently).

Special Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Residency (Green Card holder) is required, per ITAR regulations.
  • Occasional travel within the Continental U.S. may be necessary.
