We are seeking a seasoned multi-line underwriter to spearhead and expand one of our latest specialty package initiatives, focusing on Franchised Equipment Dealers. You will play a pivotal role in a vibrant organization that aims to creatively and effectively scale our operations while recognizing individual contributions and fostering teamwork. Your responsibilities will include independently evaluating and underwriting intricate risks, managing relationships with carriers and brokers, and collaborating with our sales team to help The Ladders cultivate a profitable book of business for sustained growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conducts daily underwriting operations at an advanced level.
  • Utilizes expertise to assess and negotiate complex customer accounts, aiming to reduce risk and enhance profitability.
  • Underwrites various lines including General Liability, Property, Inland Marine, Auto, Workers Compensation, and Excess.
  • Implements rate strategies for renewal portfolios.
  • Proposes innovative alternatives concerning rating and coverage to support favorable risks.
  • Engages underwriting assistants for support and administrative tasks as per established workflows.
  • Develops and executes program strategies with the team.
  • Maintains ongoing communication across all functional areas - leadership, sales, and operations.
  • Ensures underwriting files comply with The Ladders' policies and procedures.
  • Conducts soft audits.
  • Orders and reviews inspections to verify that accounts align with initial underwriting assessments and takes action when unacceptable risk factors are identified.
  • Assists colleagues in resolving issues related to program objectives.
  • Ensures compliance with underwriting standards, objectives, and guidelines.
  • Implements updates to written program guidelines as necessary.
  • Facilitates organization and review of files during audits by carrier partners.
  • Builds and maintains strong business relationships with agents and carriers to attract and retain profitable business for the assigned portfolio.
  • Collaborates with senior management on product development, processes, and underwriting strategies.
  • Submits referrals to carriers as directed by the Senior Vice President of Underwriting.
  • Possesses comprehensive knowledge of all programs and products at The Ladders to effectively advocate within the agency community.
  • Actively manages the program to achieve production targets.
  • Handles special projects as assigned.
Program Focus

This role will serve as the lead underwriter for an emerging program within the Franchised Equipment Dealer sector. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding and experience in the dealer segment (auto or equipment). The Ladders offers a proprietary solution tailored for this industry, providing an all-lines insurance solution to clients.
  • Multi-line coverage available (including property, GL, auto, inland marine, workers compensation, and excess).
  • High level of underwriting authority.
  • Types of risks considered include, but are not limited to: Construction, Agricultural, Forestry, and Warehouse Equipment, Forklifts, Lift Trucks, and Storage Equipment.
  • Program operational with existing premium and a pipeline for new business.
  • Sales support to identify new business opportunities.
Qualifications & Skills
  • 5-8 years of progressive underwriting experience with a strong focus on commercial property, inland marine, and casualty, particularly in dealership programs (auto or franchise preferred).
  • Multi-line property and casualty background, including Commercial Property, Auto, Dealers Open Lot, General Liability, and Inland Marine.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to teamwork.
  • Able to cultivate strong relationships with carriers and brokers.
  • Positive attitude towards customer service and relationship management.
  • Strong analytical and logical reasoning capabilities.
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Self-motivated with effective time management skills.
  • Proficient in computer skills and adaptable to new technologies and workflows.
Compensation:

The salary range for this position is competitive, with opportunities for performance-based bonuses. The final offer will depend on factors such as geographic location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This role may also qualify for participation in an annual incentive program.
