Position Summary:
The Vice President of Operations is essential in shaping and executing the operational strategy, framework, and procedures to guarantee the safe and effective production of goods with unparalleled quality and service. This pivotal leadership role encompasses the management of inside sales, account management, supply chain, engineering, and various manufacturing sites.
You will foster a collaborative environment, encouraging an "All hands-on deck" mindset among employees and promoting a culture centered on continuous improvement and a commitment to customer satisfaction. Your role will involve engaging with team members across all organizational levels, nurturing a culture of accountability that prioritizes speed, transparency, and open communication.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Guide the Operations Team, which includes department leaders in Inside Sales, Account Management, Supply Chain, Engineering, and Manufacturing, ensuring alignment with departmental and company objectives.
- Facilitate the coordination of the Operations Team's activities through effective management of schedules, documentation, and communication.
- Mentor, motivate, and develop Operations Team leaders to enhance the company's success while supporting individual career growth.
- Strategically plan staffing levels to align with current and future business requirements.
- Recruit, onboard, and train new leaders and departmental personnel as necessary.
- Conduct performance assessments, personal development plans, and disciplinary actions in a constructive manner.
- Undertake additional supervisory duties as required by the business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the Operations Team to enhance workplace safety, increase throughput, and minimize errors.
- Acquire a comprehensive understanding of the Operations Departments, including:
- Inside Sales and Account Management – quoting, project oversight, customer relations, data analysis, and software objectives.
- Supply Chain – procurement, inventory management, receiving, shipping, warehousing, IT, and facilities management.
- Engineering – product design, drafting, and ongoing improvement of company offerings.
- Manufacturing – efficient production of products to meet customer timelines while ensuring a safe work environment.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Dynamic, hands-on leader who actively engages with managers and employees.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with a history of building and managing high-performing teams.
- Strong focus on execution and achieving results.
- In-depth understanding and practical experience with manufacturing processes, including Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other process improvement methodologies.
- Proficient in ERP systems and relevant software applications for managing operations and supply chain activities.
- Knowledge of quoting and pricing strategies, with the ability to develop competitive pricing models.
- Ability to interpret architectural and mechanical CAD drawings; prior design experience with CAD software is advantageous.
- Strong capability to develop and implement operational strategies that enhance efficiency and profitability.
- Experience in fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement within operational teams.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on data-driven decision-making.
- Ability to quickly identify issues, evaluate options, and implement effective solutions to optimize operational performance.
- Solid understanding of financial management principles, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
- Proven success in negotiating with suppliers, vendors, and customers to achieve favorable outcomes.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, or a related field.
- Master's degree or MBA preferred.
- At least 15 years of experience in operations management within the manufacturing sector, including leadership of multi-site operations.
Language, Physical, and Travel Requirements:
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, capable of engaging effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Fluency in spoken and written English is required; proficiency in spoken Spanish is highly desirable.
- Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer.
- Occasional lifting of weights up to 50 pounds.
- Willingness to travel by air and car as needed; approximately 30% travel required.
