Process and Quality Manager

The Process and Quality Manager provides technical leadership and hands-on guidance over the extrusion process and quality. Interfaces throughout all levels of the plant and the foam network to provide solutions and advancements to product manufacturing challenges. The Process and Quality Manager is the subject matter expert on the plant's extrusion process, product quality, and raw material areas. This position has two hourly direct reports to help manage and facilitate daily operations and reporting.

This position reports to the Plant Leader and is a member of the Plant Leadership Team (NLT). As a member of the leadership team, the Process and Quality Manager helps develop and deploy strategies to meet the business objectives.

Lead plant extrusion process and technical excellence

  • Responsible for driving excellent performance in our 24/7 extrusion process
  • Deliver exceptional production performance and constantly drive for improvement in product characteristics, system capability, and consistency of results
    • Hands-on engagement with extruder WonderWare and Ignition systems
    • Establish repeatable recipes and settings for each product
    • Drive product changeover consistency and effectiveness
    • Deliver on KPI's for product density efficiency, yield, and pack rate
  • Create and implement best practices at the extruder level for process setup and control
  • Interface with divisional engineering to solve all product and material challenges
  • Lead implementation of new processes, production codes, and raw material blends
  • Conduct process improvement trials and incorporate learning into technical improvement plans

Drive Plant Quality Excellence

  • Owns and develops all plant product quality specifications to ensure the specification is adequate to ensure customer FFU
  • Ensures all products meet ASTM, UL, R&D Industries and FM Global standards
  • Maintain master files and history on all internal product specifications and procedures
  • Stay current on all Quality Control (QC) specifications and act as the subject-matter expert for QC
    • Educate all plant leadership and primary employees on quality control requirements
    • Interface with regional Foam QC resources to ensure alignment with QC expectations
  • Develop and sustain practices to minimize Cost to Non-Quality (CONQ)
  • Constantly strives to improve product performance in all areas and matches up customer needs with technical solutions to ensure customer Fitness for Use (FFU) are met with our products
  • Provide technical and process support to our customers and sales support team as required

Lead and develop talent

  • Owner of the training and development process for extrusion operator and quality technician
  • Cross-functional team member on the Foam Divisional Process Engineers Network
  • Hands-on guidance to extrusion operators and quality technicians on the manufacturing process and process control procedures
  • Leads, coaches, and teaches employees to reinforce Owens Corning values and ownership of plant processes and performance

Lead FI Pillar

  • Work with the TPM steering team to develop the master plan and subsequent strategies for the implementation of FI Pillar
  • Utilize FI methodologies to drive continuous improvement, lead root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions
  • Partner cross-functionally with finance, engineering, and other teams to understand the current performance challenges, while developing sound solution strategies
  • Effectively mentor teams and individuals of the plant around FI principles and processes

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years manufacturing experience required
    • Extrusion processes strongly preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or other industry-related degree
  • Lean certification such as Six Sigma or other related methodology

Experience:

  • Hands-on leadership and engagement in a high-performing manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated success coaching and leading teams in a high employee empowerment culture, while training and developing technical skills in others
  • Managing and delivering results through projects and initiatives
  • TPM, continuous improvement, root cause analysis, and other lean concepts
  • Experience utilizing computer programs and Microsoft Office products

  • Ability to travel as required (10%)
  • Conducts himself/herself with the highest ethical and moral standards
  • Learns concepts and new skills at a very rapid pace and applies learning to the job
