Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Position Purpose:

The role involves the thorough examination and evaluation of Annual Business Personal Property Filings to ensure accuracy and compliance. Additionally, it includes the assessment of Annual Mobile Home Evaluations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts reviews of annual business personal property filings to ensure the correct forms are utilized.
  • Analyzes each submission for the accuracy of self-assessed values and depreciation levels across various property types, verifying calculations for taxable values.
  • Provides explanations and answers inquiries from taxpayers regarding their annual business filings.
  • Adjusts and reassigns parcel numbers in response to changes in filing entity statuses.
  • Performs reviews and analyses of mobile home assessments.

Additional Duties:

  • Completes other tasks as assigned by the Personal Property Supervisor.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of five years of relevant experience.

  • Must possess and maintain a Level I Assessor/Appraiser Certificate in the State of Indiana (requires 30 hours of continuing education every two years). If not certified, the candidate must obtain certification within one year of employment.
  • Valid Driver's License is required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word and Excel).
  • Comprehensive understanding of assessing principles, guidelines, and relevant statutes and regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of Department of Local Government Finance rules concerning annual business personal property assessment filings.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact with the public with professionalism and respect, including managing difficult interactions.
  • Capable of following written and verbal instructions and responding to constructive feedback.
  • Must be able to conduct field visits for data collection related to assessments.
  • Willingness to occasionally work extended hours, including weekends and evenings, and travel for meetings or training.
  • Adherence to all departmental policies and work rules, including attendance, safety, and professional conduct.

Work Environment:

This position requires working in both indoor and outdoor settings, where various conditions may be encountered, including inclement weather and challenging terrains. The role may involve extended hours and occasional travel for training purposes.
