Public Works Consultant - Municipal Technical Advisory Service

The University of Tennessee's Municipal Technical Advisory Service (MTAS) is seeking a highly skilled Public Works Consultant to provide expert advice and technical assistance to Tennessee municipal officials, their staffs, and other stakeholders on a wide range of public works, utilities, and engineering issues.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide professional advice and technical assistance to elected and appointed municipal officials, as well as non-municipal clients such as state agencies and professional associations.
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with elected and appointed municipal officials to understand their needs and provide tailored solutions.
  • Represent the municipal viewpoint to the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) on permitting, rules, and regulations.
  • Stay up-to-date on local, state, and federal laws and regulations pertaining to public works and communicate this knowledge effectively to stakeholders.
  • Develop innovative solutions to complex issues and provide effective presentations to stakeholders.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of experience in a municipal public works or engineering department, or related leadership position.
  • Strong knowledge of public works, utilities, and engineering management best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and able to multi-task and prioritize requests for assistance.
