The Lead Financial Analyst role is integral to the financial operations of the Commonwealth of Virginia's central finance office. Reporting directly to the Director of Financial Reporting and Accounting, this position encompasses key responsibilities in Financial Reporting and Accounting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements, collaborating with various departments and auditors.
  • Support the generation of external financial reports and compliance documentation.
  • Contribute to the development, review, and documentation of financial policies and operational procedures.
  • Coordinate accounting activities with other departments, ensuring reconciliations and compliance controls are effectively managed.
  • Engage in the analysis and implementation of new accounting standards, including the creation of formal documentation.
  • Conduct thorough analyses of financial transactions, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and documenting relevant processes.
  • Review and validate journal entries and accounting classifications, including the execution of necessary journal entries.
  • Analyze financial reports, providing insights and recommendations regarding reserves, assets, and expenditures.
  • Collaborate with various finance sectors, including cost accounting and tax compliance.
  • Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

  • Sound judgment in decision-making related to accounting entries and customer inquiries.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Experience in lease accounting and month-end closing processes.
  • Outstanding organizational skills with a focus on execution and follow-up.
  • Ability to maintain a holistic view while diving into details when necessary.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Capacity to collaborate effectively across various teams within the organization.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Business or Accounting.
  • Experience: A minimum of four years in accounting roles.
  • Licensure: CPA license preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with Workday is advantageous.
