About the Position

The University of Georgia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Archaeological Senior Technician to join our team. As a key member of our Cultural Resources Management team, you will play a critical role in evaluating and monitoring the condition of various site types, including archaeological sites and historic cemeteries.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide subject matter expertise to evaluate and monitor the condition of a wide range of site types.
  • Monitor archaeological sites and historic cemeteries on the installation and report conditions.
  • Perform construction monitoring during small scale projects.
  • Provide input on NEPA documentation as a subject matter expert in archaeology.
Requirements
  • Function in the field as part of a team and possess knowledge, education and expertise in archaeology, anthropology, geography, geology, history, or historic preservation.
  • Experience working in the Southeast United States and possess the subject matter expertise to support cultural resources monitoring to include site protection efforts.
  • Proficient in the use of ESRI Geographic Information System software and current computer technologies including Microsoft suite products.
  • Documented experience in performing all tasks related to all phases of cultural resource management archaeology work at the crew chief level.
  • Documented experience providing regulatory compliance input for various levels of National Environmental Policy Act documentation as a subject matter expert.
  • Documented experience creating and maintaining Geographic Information System feature classes in the Department of Defense's Spatial Data Standards for Infrastructure and Environment formats.
  • General office experience working with Microsoft Office programs and ArcGIS Pro geographic information system.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain airfield driver's license within 6 months is required.
Working Conditions

The position requires standing, walking, bending, and carrying of light items in the office setting. Possible exposure to moderate risks or discomforts when making on-site visits for property inspection, visiting military installations, civil works projects, and occasionally, construction projects, areas with limited access, or areas that require special safety precautions and may require the wearing of protective clothing. Field conditions may be extreme, and applicants should be prepared to traverse rough terrain and lift items up to 50 pounds.
