Job Description

Job Summary:

The Psychiatric Technician (Safety) position at the Valley State Prison in Chowchilla, CA, is a part-time, 4/5 time (.80) role that requires a basic level of general nursing and behavioral and psychiatric nursing care to patients in accordance with the Mental Health Program Guide, policies, and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organize and provide basic level of general nursing and behavioral and psychiatric nursing care to patients under valid authorization by a provider's order and the delegation and clinical direction of the Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Ensure the delivery of appropriate and timely health care to patients, in collaboration with the health care team, pursuant to the PT scope of practice.
  • Provide support to the care team for daily health care operations and communicate effectively with patients and other members of the health care team.
  • Address the ongoing needs of patients, work with the members of the larger health care team, and promote the efficient, appropriate, and cost-effective use of health care resources.

Requirements:

  • Possession of a valid license to practice as a Psychiatric Technician issued by the BVNPTE.
  • Ability to work in a correctional health care setting and provide care to patients with various mental health conditions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks to meet the needs of patients and the healthcare team.
