Respiratory Care Practitioner

As a Respiratory Care Practitioner, you will work under the supervision of a physician to provide high-quality patient care in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Cardio-Pulmonary Services Department. Your responsibilities will include performing emergency services, in and out-patient care, cleaning and processing equipment, and administrative functions with electronic medical record systems.
Key Responsibilities:- Perform, Obtain, and Interpret Data:
- Read and evaluate doctor's orders and clarify as needed
- Review patient information and perform assessment
- Determine if modifications are needed to doctor's order and make recommendations to physician
- Explain planned procedures and goals to patients in understandable terms
- Conduct therapeutic procedures to maintain patient's airway, remove bronchopulmonary secretions, and achieve adequate ventilation and oxygenation
- Monitor patient's responses to respiratory treatments and recognize adverse reactions
- Perform Therapeutic and Diagnostic Procedures:
- Complete daily assignments as per policy and procedure
- Perform procedures in accordance with Respiratory Care Policies and Procedures
- Document procedures and record in patient's electronic medical record
- Input procedure changes in electronic patient record, if needed
- Follow Infection Prevention Guidelines and Quality Review
- Follow Hospital Wide Hand Washing Policy and Procedures with all patient care procedures
- Order and Stock Department Supplies and Equipment as needed
- Broken and/or Non-Functioning Equipment:
- Take equipment out of service and note malfunction for repair
- Set up equipment in accordance with guidelines and policy and procedures
- Properly handle and reassemble equipment per guidelines
- Select, assemble, and check equipment for cleanliness, proper function, and safe operation
- Ensure proper function of equipment and readily availability for use
- Respond to Emergency Situations:
- Perform adequate ventilation and/or compressions during CPR
- Assist with intubation/extubation
- Initiate mechanical ventilation
- Wean and/or modify ventilator settings with physician's orders
- May respond and assist in high-risk deliveries
