Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Risk Management to lead our global risk function. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, and analyzing risks inherent to ONX's operations, with the ultimate goal of reducing our cost of risk. Key responsibilities include:

  • Identifying and evaluating risk exposures, and administering risk treatment/insurance programs to efficiently manage exposures to those risks.
  • Remaining informed of changes within the company and recommending/ executing changes to the program as necessary.
  • Tracking and reviewing all insurance policies held by the company and supporting renewal processes annually.
  • Reporting to and working closely with our General Counsel.
Key Responsibilities

The Head of Risk Management will be responsible for:

  • Creating robust insurance programs and allocations, with a focus on real estate, manufacturing, and construction risks in our US markets.
  • Developing strong, effective working relationships with the Company's management and functional leaders.
  • Establishing themselves as an in-house liability management resource, available and eager to educate, advise, and direct our management, staff, and business partners where necessary to reduce or transfer risks.
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with insurance brokers and carriers, and leading annual renewals.
  • Regularly reviewing our insurance programs for enhancements and working closely with brokers/carriers to create cost savings opportunities.
  • Implementing, administering, and monitoring risk management techniques/strategies to efficiently and cost-effectively manage those risks, including in respect of subcontractor/vendor exposures.
  • Partnering with the procurement team to implement and administer a robust system of contract review in respect of subcontractor and vendor agreements.
  • Overseeing general liability and workers' comp claims.
  • Coordinating the issuance and distribution of Certificates of Insurance to business partners. Evaluating and monitoring incoming certificates to determine if they meet the appropriate contractual requirements, and taking necessary action if not.
  • Reviewing insurance binders, invoices, and policies for accuracy and managing the retention of policies, schedules of insurance, and other risk management documentation based on the company's retention policy.
  • Participating in forums, risk management educational programs, and other educational opportunities to stay informed of emerging issues affecting risks.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of overall risk experience.
  • A high degree of knowledge and understanding of real estate and construction sectors.
  • Strong interpersonal skills – ability to build relationships fast, and maintain them to maximize results.
  • A high degree of comfort with ambiguity and uncertainty – able to pivot quickly and coolly to new strategies based on changing circumstances.
  • Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Promptly responsive to inquiries.
  • Comfort with virtual meetings and work.
  • Excellent communication (verbal & written), numerical, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively as part of a broad-based team in a dynamic environment – where superior time management and prioritization/re-prioritization skills are essential.
  • Be willing to travel at least 15% domestically.
Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are highly desirable:

  • Property & Casualty Broker's License.
  • Familiarity with the risk profile of manufacturing/factory operations.
  • JD and 3+ years of legal practice.
  • Captive insurance experience.
