Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Underwriting Associate to join our team at Rose International. As an Underwriting Associate, you will be responsible for serving as the primary contact for our insurance agency clients and handling the placement of bond, crime, windstorm, flood, cyber, and other insurance coverages in the standard insurance marketplace.

Key Responsibilities
  • Place miscellaneous ancillary lines policies (bonds, crime, windstorm, flood, cyber coverage, pollution liability, etc.) for pools and stand-alone accounts.
  • Review and complete applications and submit to appropriate markets.
  • Process policy change requests and maintain/follow up on outstanding items needed from clients or insurance carriers.
  • Provide premium quotations to clients for new and renewal policies.
  • Create and send proposals, invoices all policies and endorsements, and process company and customer inquiries and incoming correspondence.
  • Review expirations and prepare policy renewal notices, process preliminary claims notices between insurance carriers and clients, and maintain all work in AMS 360.
  • File surplus lines taxes and stamping office fees and maintain the appropriate files and logs for annual tax filings.
  • Serve as the primary contact for self-insured pool member clients for day-to-day customer service and basic underwriting needs.
  • Maintain current underwriting exposures in pool underwriting system(s) for all clients.
  • E-mail and/or print, assemble, and mail member policies, issue verification of coverage (certificates) for all lines of coverage, and coordinate and conduct contribution audits for self-insured pool clients.
  • Coordinate, collect, and process self-insured pool member renewal updates, including exposures, financial statements, warranties, MCP election forms, poor driver forms, etc.
  • Process DWC notices for self-insured pool member clients, enter property & auto schedule exposures into systems to facilitate individual pool proposals, and new member account set-up in underwriting and AMS systems.
  • Co-manage team e-mail accounts, process daily and annual MVR's, reconcile and process monthly invoices and quarterly billings from vendors for MVR's, and document/inputs all phone calls, e-mails, correspondence, and any other documents into AMS within 1 business day of receipt/making/sending or as otherwise agreed to in procedures.
Requirements
  • High school education or equivalent, with some college preferred.
  • 9+ years of insurance experience preferred, with prior experience in an agency environment preferred (utilization of an agency system preferred).
  • Minimum 5 years of commercial property/casualty customer service representative experience, preferably including workers' compensation, liability, and property within the standard market and public entity arena.
  • Hold a General P/C agent license or obtain within 6 months.
Skills and Abilities
  • Strong customer service, organizational, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and change direction/focus quickly.
  • Highly organized and attentive to detail.
  • Proficient with contact management/underwriting/agency systems, preferred.
  • Ability to type a minimum of 40 words per minute and 10-key by touch.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Alpha/numeric filing skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume; ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or scheduled form.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Pleasant demeanor and comfortable interacting with co-workers and clients at all levels, including senior executives and external clients.
  • Strong problem-solving skills; resolves issues in a timely manner.
Knowledge
  • Intermediate-level knowledge of Microsoft Office Word.
  • Intermediate-level knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
