About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Principal RFIC Design Engineer to lead our Synthesizer/PLL Design team at Kyocera International, Inc. As a key member of our engineering team, you will play a pivotal role in the design and development of high-performance RF (mmWave) synthesizers for our state-of-the-art mmWave solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead RF Synthesizer/PLL Architecture and Design: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define RF Synthesizer architecture, specifications, and performance requirements, ensuring competitive KPIs for mmWave base station and CPE applications.
  • Technical Leadership and Mentorship: Provide technical expertise, guidance, and mentorship to a team of engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment. Create processes and checklists to improve team productivity and product execution flow.
  • Package and PCB Design/Layout: Drive the design and layout of packages and printed circuit boards (PCBs), using electromagnetic (EM) tools to model and simulate their impact on RFIC performance.
  • Full IC Design Flow: Oversee the overall IC design and verification flow, including compensation, calibration, bias circuit, power supply, power management, product yield, and reliability analysis.
  • Product Yield and Production Variations Analysis: Analyze and simulate production yield, variations, and calibration processes to ensure optimal product performance.
  • Production ATE Development: Collaborate with test engineers to define, develop, and ramp production ATE solutions.
  • Product Support: Work with applications, product, test, and manufacturing engineers to address customer questions, assess field failures, and support yield improvements.
  • Technology Development: Contribute to the definition of the technology roadmap, addressing performance and functional requirements of the product roadmap.
  • Simulation and Validation: Conduct extensive simulations, modeling, and validation of circuits using industry-standard EDA tools to ensure robust performance and functionality across various operating conditions.
  • Silicon Characterization: Collaborate with the test team to define test plans and support silicon characterization efforts to validate and debug the chip's performance.
  • Design Documentation: Prepare comprehensive design documentation, including specifications, design reviews, and data reviews to ensure efficient knowledge transfer within the team.
  • Project Management: Manage project timelines and deliverables, ensuring milestones are met promptly and the project remains on track.
  • Intellectual Property: Contribute to the creation and protection of intellectual property through patents, solidifying Kyocera's position as an industry leader.
Requirements
  • Education: MS or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or related fields, with a focus on RF/analog/mixed-signal circuit design.
  • Experience: 15+ years of industry experience, including 5+ years of mmWave RF Synthesizer design experience.
  • Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of device physics and models, circuit architecture, and design tradeoffs. Experience with phase alignment of multiple fractional-N PLLs and LO dividers is a plus.
  • Skills: Proficiency in EDA tools such as Cadence, Spectre, Virtuoso, AMS, and familiarity with hardware description languages (e.g., Verilog). Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Leadership and Collaboration: Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams. Demonstrated ability to mentor and guide junior engineers.
