Opportunity Overview


WSP is excited to announce a search for a skilled Structural Engineering Consultant to join our dynamic Transportation Group. This role offers a unique chance to engage in both minor and major projects, contributing to innovative designs and solutions.


Your Contributions


This position is ideal for mid to senior-level professionals tasked with conducting engineering assessments and designing transportation infrastructures, including bridges and retaining walls.


Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a team of engineers to design and verify bridge superstructures and substructures.
  • Prepare preliminary and final designs, specifications, quantities, and cost assessments.
  • Coordinate effectively with various disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients.
  • Utilize advanced software tools for structural analysis and design.
  • Incorporate innovative design techniques that prioritize safety and functionality for end-users.
  • Generate technical documentation and presentations, including reports, charts, and calculations.
  • Work alongside other professionals and authorities on various improvement and development projects.
  • Ensure adherence to quality control standards for precise measurements and reporting.
  • Assist in the development and scoping of medium-sized projects.
  • Provide mentorship and training to junior engineers.
  • Engage with regulatory bodies, subcontractors, and clients professionally.
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in structural engineering practices.


Who You Are


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Registered Professional Engineer, preferably in North Carolina or eligible to obtain NC PE.
  • 5+ years of relevant post-education experience in engineering and prior structural or civil design experience.
  • Strong understanding of structural engineering principles and practices.
  • Ability to perform technical calculations and interpret engineering documents.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with diverse audiences.
  • Proficient in technical writing and familiar with discipline-specific design software.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to company policies.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Engineering.
  • Experience with NCDOT bridge design and familiarity with relevant manuals and standards.
  • Project management experience for small to mid-level projects.
  • Active participation in local professional organizations.
