Position Summary

We are seeking a dedicated full-time Civil/Structural Forensic Engineer, PE, based in the Research Triangle (Raleigh–Durham–Cary), North Carolina area. The selected candidate will also have the opportunity to serve clients in neighboring states.

Key Responsibilities

  • No prior forensic engineering experience is necessary, as we offer comprehensive on-the-job training.
  • Conduct forensic evaluations of residential, commercial, and industrial structures, focusing on issues such as storm damage, moisture intrusion, impact damage, foundation settlement, and construction defects.
  • Prepare detailed and impartial reports based on site investigations, adhering to company standards.
  • Strong report writing skills are advantageous.
  • Maintain effective communication with clients, engineering teams, and the home office.
  • Exhibit a customer-focused attitude and collaborate professionally with clients on assigned projects.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in scheduling and quality control.
  • Meet company expectations and deadlines, especially during peak workload periods.
  • Provide expert testimony and depositions as required.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by management.
  • Be prepared to work extra hours during busy periods as needed.
  • Show initiative, be self-motivated, and work independently.
  • Proficient typing skills (minimum 30 wpm) and familiarity with Microsoft Office, particularly MS Word, are required.
  • Exhibit strong writing abilities with correct English grammar and spelling.
  • Ability to park a company vehicle at home.
  • Willingness to adapt to changes in company policies and procedures.

Educational and Licensing Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or a related engineering discipline is required.
  • Must possess and maintain an active professional engineer (PE) license in the state of employment or be able to obtain licensure within two months.
  • An NCEES Record is preferred.
  • A valid driver's license without travel restrictions and the ability to be insured by the company for vehicle use is necessary.

Travel Expectations

  • This is a remote position.
  • Residence in the Research Triangle (Raleigh–Durham–Cary) area is mandatory. Daily office attendance is not required.
  • Ability to work from home or remotely, especially while traveling.
  • Travel to site inspections arranged by the home office, with some inspections potentially in nearby states.
  • Extended travel may be necessary depending on investigation locations.
  • Willingness to drive long distances, occasionally exceeding 8-hour days.
  • Overnight travel may be required based on the number of sites to investigate.
  • Regular travel (up to 50% of the time) within the assigned region may be necessary.

Physical Requirements

Applicants must be capable of performing physical tasks associated with forensic investigations, which may include:

  • Extended periods of standing, walking, sitting, or driving.
  • Climbing stairs, ladders, and scaffolding.
  • Walking on various roof slopes, including those over two stories high.
  • Crawling through confined spaces (e.g., attics, crawlspaces).
  • Working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and move objects weighing between 50 to 100 lbs.

Overtime Policy

This position offers a competitive salary, including overtime and an annual bonus. Employees are expected to comply with overtime requirements during busy periods.
