Overview
As an Ophthalmology Medical Scribe, you will collaborate with our eye care professionals by accurately documenting patient information into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. Your role will involve collecting essential medical data from patients, conducting preliminary assessments, and taking measurements, all while ensuring the highest standard of care and an outstanding patient experience.Key Responsibilities
- Accurately transcribe and document the physician's dictated notes into the patient's electronic medical record (EHR).
- Review patient visit information and preliminary evaluations completed by the Ophthalmic Technician to verify completeness and accuracy before the physician's examination.
- Assist in preparing patient rooms as required.
- Confirm that patient appointments are scheduled correctly by reviewing the provider's calendar.
- Facilitate a seamless patient visit experience with the provider, ensuring appropriate time management.
- Generate medication prescriptions as instructed by the provider through electronic prescribing (Erx).
- Educate patients regarding ophthalmic conditions and obtain consent for procedures and surgeries.
- Conduct preliminary tests such as Goldmann Tonometry, extra-ocular muscle assessments, confrontational visual fields, refractions, and lensometry as necessary.
- Communicate any concerns regarding clinic workflow to the facilitator and management.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Certification as a COA or COT is preferred.
- Previous experience in ophthalmology is advantageous.
- General understanding of clinical and surgical procedure protocols.
- Proficient computer skills are essential.
- Must be detail-oriented, dependable, and capable of multitasking in a dynamic, high-volume environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities are required.
- Flexibility to work a schedule from Monday to Friday.
