Job Summary
As an Ophthalmic Assistant at American Vision Partners, you will play a vital role in ensuring the highest quality of care and exceptional patient experience. Your primary responsibility will be to prepare patients for exams with our doctors, gathering essential medical information, performing preliminary tests, and taking precise measurements.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome patients and visitors with a positive and warm demeanor, setting the tone for a comfortable and reassuring experience.
- Ensure that doctors' rooms are efficiently managed to maintain a smooth clinic flow, minimizing wait times and maximizing productivity.
- Conduct thorough intake assessments to obtain patient histories, accurately documenting findings in our Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
- Perform a range of diagnostic tests, including visual acuity, auto-refraction, manual and automated lensometry, Goldmann and Tonopen tonometry, and keratometry, to provide our doctors with comprehensive patient data.
- Check pupils, extra-ocular muscles, confrontational fields, and administer eye drops for dilation, as required.
- Run diagnostic tests such as Immersion A-scan, OCTs, and Visual Fields to support our doctors in making informed diagnoses.
- Administer color vision, depth perception, and Schirmer's tear testing as needed to provide a comprehensive understanding of each patient's condition.
- Assist in minor office procedures, such as lasers and excisions, under the supervision of our doctors.
- Educate patients on ophthalmic conditions and obtain informed consent for procedures and surgery, ensuring that they are fully informed and empowered to make decisions about their care.
- Maintain exam rooms to the highest standards of cleanliness and sterility, adhering to our strict infection control protocols.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- At least one year of experience in ophthalmology preferred.
- Certificate of Ophthalmic Assistance (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) certification is a plus.
- Detail-oriented, reliable, and able to multitask in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Flexible schedule, working Monday through Friday.
