The Automotive Training Specialist is responsible for the planning, organization, and delivery of technical training in alignment with established Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) curricula and methodologies. This role focuses on achieving optimal learning outcomes for automotive service technicians at various skill levels.
As a key member of the training team, the Automotive Training Specialist will instruct, mentor, and evaluate technicians in brand-specific diagnostics, testing, troubleshooting, and repair procedures as outlined by the OEM's educational framework.
This position requires the ability to effectively present the complete range of OEM technical course materials, adhering to a structured approach that includes initial mastery of subjects, collaborative teaching, and independent course delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain up-to-date technical expertise in all OEM brand-specific products, diagnostic methods, tools, and techniques; collaborate with project management to ensure all training documentation is accurate and relevant; develop and manage the master training schedule; keep precise training records; prepare classrooms, workshops, training vehicles, equipment, and study materials prior to each instructional session; restore training environments and equipment post-training; routinely validate course content and procedures through practical assessments to integrate new product-specific tasks; notify project management and curriculum developers of any technical gaps in course content and assist in refining it; update diagnostic software to ensure compatibility with new vehicle models before training sessions; maintain comprehensive knowledge of the training fleet, including service bulletins and unresolved technical issues; provide developmental support to junior trainers through co-teaching and performance assessments; and assist project management in overseeing training staff, vehicle fleet, equipment, and facility conditions.
Qualifications:
Technical Skills:
Application of acquired skills, knowledge, and methodologies to ensure training meets OEM brand standards;
Technical Knowledge:
Delivery of advanced automotive OEM technical training based on dealership experience and accredited education;
Adult Learning Principles:
Encouragement and motivation of individuals with diverse skill levels to enhance self-direction and confidence in mastering new information and techniques;
Human Resource Development:
Coaching and assessing the professional growth of trainees and staff;
Training Development:
Creation and management of training schedules, curriculum development, and assessment of technical procedures;
Administrative Proficiency:
Expertise in Microsoft Office applications and data management within a Learning Management System (LMS);
Communication Skills:
Ensure all stakeholders receive timely and accurate information to facilitate effective training delivery; foster a cooperative relationship with training staff and participants to support their achievement of certification requirements; and promote the values and culture of the OEM brand throughout the training process.
Experience:
Minimum of 10 years of technical training experience at the OEM level; 10 years of delivering OEM technician training; 5 years of leading a technical training team or supervising service technicians; and experience in delivering training in compliance with health and safety regulations.
Education:
Automotive Vocational Technical School Degree is required; Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
