Key Responsibilities

A Respiratory Therapist is responsible for administering therapies to patients experiencing breathing difficulties due to cardiac or pulmonary issues, under the guidance of a physician. This role includes conducting tests that assist in diagnosing and evaluating respiratory conditions. Key duties involve:

  • Operating mechanical ventilators and therapeutic gas delivery systems.
  • Administering aerosol treatments and managing environmental control systems.
  • Providing emergency care, including artificial respiration and cardiopulmonary resuscitation assistance.
Additional Responsibilities

Pulmonary function technologists focus on evaluating lung functions to identify any conditions or disorders. This includes conducting various tests such as:

  • Inhalation and spirometry tests.
  • Flow volume loops to assess breathing and lung capacity.
  • Walking or exercise stress tests to evaluate pulmonary system responses.
