The Respiratory Care Specialist is responsible for delivering therapies to patients experiencing breathing difficulties due to cardiac or pulmonary conditions, under physician supervision. This role includes conducting diagnostic tests to assess respiratory issues. Key responsibilities involve operating mechanical ventilators, administering therapeutic gases, and managing environmental control systems, adhering to treatment protocols. The specialist is also trained to provide emergency interventions, including artificial respiration and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
In addition, pulmonary function technologists focus on evaluating lung performance to diagnose potential disorders. This may involve various assessments such as spirometry and exercise stress tests to monitor the pulmonary system's response to physical activity.
