We're seeking a highly skilled Tax Staff Accountant to join our dynamic Tax Team at Spindrift. As a key member of our Finance Department, you will play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of our state sales tax filings.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of general accounting rules and be able to communicate complex ideas using both technical and non-technical language. Key responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing timely and accurate state sales tax filings prepared by a 3rd party
  • Reviewing and resolving state tax and regulatory notices as needed
  • Managing and maintaining exemption certificates for all customers, including new customer setup
  • Collaborating with the AP department throughout the year to determine which vendors should receive 1099s
  • Assisting with various regulatory reporting and compliance
  • Collaborating with the accounting department to ensure state bottle bill compliance
  • Assisting with tax/regulatory audits as needed
  • Providing 3rd party preparers with income tax request lists for tax returns and tax provision calculations
  • Reviewing Federal, State, and/or local income and sales tax returns
  • Coordinating tax payments and related journal entries with the AP department
  • Performing various tax-related projects and initiatives
  • Supporting technology implementations, process improvements, and other efforts to increase the efficiency of the tax compliance function

Requirements

The Tax Staff Accountant role requires someone with strong organizational skills, follow-through skills, and the ability to multi-task. Key requirements include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a Finance/Business-related degree
  • 2-5 years of experience working with internal departments and outside customers in an accounting or tax role
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a company with a collaborative team-based environment
  • Computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook, as well as web-based applications – proficiency with Excel is required

Working Conditions

  • Ability to work in an open floor plan office in Newton, MA four days a week
