Job Description

SUMMARY

The Family Shelter Support Specialist will provide coverage on weekend days/eves, ensuring the overall functioning of the shelter during shift. This role involves monitoring adherence to shelter rules and routines by residents, maintaining security and safety of the shelter.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safety and security of the shelter.
  • Respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Monitor chores, curfews, and household rules and routines.
  • Set limits, de-escalate disruptive situations, and give warnings as needed.
  • Document daily activities in the logs.
  • Offer support to residents.
  • Attend staff meetings, group trainings, and supervisions as needed.
  • Accept donations and oversee volunteer activities.
  • Uphold confidentiality.
  • Manage phone calls and door access.
  • Maintain housekeeping supplies.
  • Communicate with maintenance teams.
  • Perform minor housekeeping tasks, including cleaning and preparing rooms for new families.
  • Engage clients by understanding and addressing their needs.
  • Effective communication with clients and staff is essential.
  • Maintain confidentiality of client, employee, and agency information.
  • Ensure compliance with program/department, agency, and/or funder requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Sensitivity to low-income families of diverse backgrounds is necessary.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Bilingual skills are strongly preferred.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required.

Organizational Relationship:

  • This role directly reports to the Program Director.
  • Indirectly reports to the Component Director.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to ascend and descend stairs.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.

Estimated Salary:$45,000 - $50,000 per year, based on experience and location.
