Job Summary:

This position is a Tier II Network Administrator in the implementation and performance of the Department of Information Technology's (DoIT) Local Area Network (LAN) IT infrastructure as well as with the IT infrastructure for DoIT's partners, managers, directors, service owners, and other agencies at the state, local and federal levels of government.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, implement, and integrate DoIT's LAN infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot, operations & maintenance (O&M), solution implementation, formal hardware upgrades, firmware evaluations, providing technical support and consulting to partner agencies, performing site surveys, and optimizing LAN infrastructure solutions.
  • Coordinate, provide guidance and support to personnel either at DoIT, other agencies, contractors, LAN team members, DoIT managers or directors, networkMarylandTM, or others at DoIT to complete these tasks.
  • Provide guidance and direction in the areas of hardware, software, networking, wireless, VoIP troubleshooting, and evaluation of work.
  • Network design, troubleshooting, operations & maintenance (O&M), solution implementation, formal hardware, and software evaluations, providing technical support and consulting to partner agencies.

Requirements:

  • Five years of experience, three years of experience planning, integrating and maintaining software and hardware for local or wide area computer networks supporting 1,000 or more users and an additional two years of experience in planning, installing and maintaining data communications network lines and devices.
  • Candidates may substitute completion of high school or a high school equivalency certificate and completion of a certification program in Network Administration, such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Juniper Networks Certification Program (JNCP) or equivalent certification program for the additional two years of the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute experience on a year-for-year basis: in planning, installing and maintaining data communications network lines and devices for graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree in computer information technology, management information systems, or other information technology related field, to include course work in local or wide area computer network, from an accredited college or university and three years of experience planning, integrating and maintaining software and hardware for local or wide area computer networks supporting 1,000 or more users for the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in Network Analyst classifications or Network Integration and Management specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. Candidates substituting military experience should be honorably discharged.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience configuring and deploying Juniper EX, SRX, MX & Mist devices.
  • Experience configuring and deploying Aruba switches and wireless access points.
