Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Plant Maintenance Mechanic to join our team at the City of Columbus. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, repairing, and removing industrial mechanical equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install and maintain functional and structural parts in machinery and mechanical devices
  • Remove and replace defective parts using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools
  • Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments using hand tools, power tools, levels, plumb bobs, straightedges, and other analytical devices
  • Inspect and perform preventative maintenance on industrial mechanical equipment
  • Perform and document preliminary diagnostic evaluation of failed equipment, parts, components, and mechanical systems
  • Examine form and texture of parts to detect imperfections
  • Inspect used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments
  • Perform maintenance and repair for industrial pumps, including lubrication, rebuilding, alignment of motors, nearby valves maintained or exercised, or other maintenance tasks performed
  • Handle pressurized water to perform wash outs of plant facilities that support the treatment flow of water or water reclamation and may include channels, basins, flocks, water towers, tanks, or other treatment infrastructure
  • Access plant equipment or plant facilities via ladders, stairs, motorized lifts, tunnels, confined space entry, manholes, or other access methods
  • Follow safety precautions, such as for confined space or lockout/tagout programs; complete paperwork; set up and check safety devices; act as line of communication; support safety awareness
  • Cut, weld, bend, and/or straighten metal parts as needed
  • Clean work area after completion of job
  • Lubricate and clean parts and equipment
  • Perform shaft alignments using dial indicators, lasers, or other devices
  • Utilize computer software to complete work orders and timesheets
  • Drive motor vehicle to and from job site and other work-related locations
  • Assess functionality of mechanical equipment by viewing information on the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system
  • Complete work orders and related forms
  • Notify appropriate personnel of necessary downtime associated with projects that disrupt normal operations
  • May operate various light and heavy-duty equipment
  • May work with or around hazardous chemicals and noxious odors requiring personal protective equipment, such as full-face respirators or particle masks
  • May lead and evaluate the work of maintenance helpers, apprentices, and/or temporary maintenance staff
Requirements
  • Completion of the twelfth grade and two (2) years of experience assisting in the installation, maintenance, repair, and/or removal of industrial mechanical equipment
  • Possession of a valid driver's license
