The Patient Access Specialist plays a crucial role in gathering demographic and insurance details through both telephone interactions and direct patient engagement. This position necessitates the utilization of eligibility applications to initiate requests for insurance verification, interpret the responses, and accurately document the relevant health insurance information associated with the services provided.
This role requires a comprehensive understanding of contractual benefits related to the services rendered, along with the capability to engage in financial discussions with patients regarding their payment responsibilities. Comfort in collecting financial obligations from patients based on eligibility responses or service estimates is essential.
Education:
+ Associates degree preferred
Licensure, Certification & Registration:
+ CHAA certification recommended
Experience:
+ Proficient computer skills
+ In-depth knowledge of insurance processes
+ 3 to 5 years of relevant experience
+ Experience in a Hospital Emergency Department is preferred
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
+ Ability to thrive in the high-pressure environment of a Level I Trauma Center
+ Competence in multitasking within a fast-paced, high patient volume setting; adept at managing intense situations
+ Strong judgment and resourcefulness in problem-solving; capable of escalating issues when necessary
+ Ability to manage exposure to bodily fluids safely
+ Proficient in operating a multi-line telephone system; paging duties required
+ Physical capability to push weight as needed
+ Must be able to stand for extended periods
