Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Maternal and Child Health Specialist to join our team at LAHC Leaders Advancing and Helping Communities. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing programs and initiatives designed to improve maternal and child health outcomes in underserved populations in Wayne County.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in public health, with experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation. They will be able to work collaboratively with community organizations, healthcare providers, and stakeholders to foster partnerships and coordinate efforts to support maternal and child health initiatives.

The Maternal and Child Health Specialist will provide individual and group education sessions on prenatal care, child development, nutrition, parenting skills, and other relevant topics. They will also assess the cultural and linguistic needs of the target population and ensure that program materials and resources are accessible and culturally appropriate.

The successful candidate will be able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment. They will have excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, and be able to maintain client confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement programs and initiatives to improve maternal and child health outcomes in Wayne County.
  • Collaborate with community organizations, healthcare providers, and stakeholders to foster partnerships and coordinate efforts to support maternal and child health initiatives.
  • Provide individual and group education sessions on prenatal care, child development, nutrition, parenting skills, and other relevant topics.
  • Assess the cultural and linguistic needs of the target population and ensure that program materials and resources are accessible and culturally appropriate.
  • Advocate for the rights and well-being of mothers and children, particularly those from marginalized communities, by addressing social determinants of health and advocating for policy changes.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Nursing, Social Work, or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training approved by Human Resources.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in maternal and child health, preferably in a nonprofit or community-based setting.
  • Strong background in program development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.

Working Conditions:

The Maternal and Child Health Specialist will work in a client-controlled office environment. They will be required to adjust their hours of work based on community needs, including some evenings and weekends.

Physical Requirements:

The successful candidate will be required to sit for up to 7 hours per day, lift up to 0.5 hours per day, and walk up to 2 hours per day. They will also be required to stand for up to 4 hours per day, push for up to 0.5 hours per day, and bend for up to 1 hour per day.
