The Per Diem Physical Therapist is responsible for assessing, planning, and implementing physical therapy treatment protocols for both inpatient and outpatient referrals. The goal is to restore functionality, alleviate pain, and prevent disabilities resulting from illness, injury, or loss of body parts. The therapist will operate within the professional guidelines established by state regulations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts and records comprehensive initial evaluations of patients promptly and accurately.
  • Sets achievable short-term and long-term objectives for each patient.
  • Administers therapeutic exercises in a safe and effective manner.
  • Develops, modifies, and implements progressive treatment plans based on evaluation results.
  • Utilizes various therapeutic modalities and programs, including heat/cold therapy, ultrasound, massage, electrical stimulation, whirlpool treatments, and wound care.
  • Fits and trains patients on assistive, prosthetic, and orthotic devices.
  • Plans for patient discharge and educates patients and their families on home care programs.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation, including evaluations, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Supervises Physical Therapist Assistants and aides during treatment sessions.
  • Participates in the orientation of new Physical Therapists.
  • Exhibits proficiency in assessing and treating patients across various age groups, including neonates, children, adolescents, and the elderly.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Must be capable of sitting for extended periods and standing for significant durations. Ability to manipulate equipment and lift/move patients weighing up to 300 lbs is essential. Frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, and reaching are required. Sensory capabilities must include tactile sensation for muscle assessment and the ability to hear and see adequately for patient interaction.

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE:

  • A Master's Degree in Physical Therapy is required.
  • A valid Physical Therapist license in the relevant state is mandatory.
  • A Doctorate Degree is preferred.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Current CPR certification is necessary, along with successful completion of required clinical affiliations and continuing education units to maintain licensure.
