Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Live Event Audio Specialist plays a crucial role in the success of live performances by managing the technical elements associated with audio. This position is accountable for overseeing all sound equipment and engineering during events, ensuring that audio quality meets the highest standards. The specialist will also assist in various facets of event production as required.

Core Responsibilities: The following duties are indicative of the tasks performed in this role and are not exhaustive.

  • Operate and manage the audio control board.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and operate all RF and audio equipment, including necessary computers and backups.
  • Inspect, clean, repair, and set up wireless microphones and associated systems.
  • Mix sound for live shows.
  • Learn and execute multiple cue tracks effectively.
  • Test SMPTE time code interactions with video and lighting systems.
  • Conduct daily pre-show line checks and RF unit testing.
  • Perform set up and tear down of all audio equipment daily.
  • Ensure regular maintenance of cables, patches, and equipment as needed.
  • Maintain appropriate decibel levels for the venue.
  • Attend all scheduled sound checks, collaborating with performers to achieve desired sound quality.
  • Coordinate with other venue sound staff for lobby sound requirements.
  • Keep a clean and organized workspace at all times.
  • Communicate updates and issues to relevant stakeholders.
  • Act as the primary contact for audio troubleshooting, including updates to hardware and software.
  • Assist with emergency procedures as necessary.
  • Mix monitor audio when required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED; extensive relevant experience may substitute for educational requirements.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in live music venues, including sound reinforcement and AV production.
  • A background in music, with experience in multi-track audio recording and professional audio systems.
  • Familiarity with the Midas Heritage D audio console.
  • Experience operating medium-sized sound reinforcement systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, digital console controls, Avid Pro Tools, and similar audio software.

Specific hearing and vision abilities are necessary for this role, including working in environments with varying noise levels and lighting conditions. The employee must be able to wear a radio earpiece during shifts.
