Job Overview

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Observe client behavior and implement behavior management strategies or other applicable programs. Ensure thorough documentation on designated forms.
  2. Record all shift activities and incidents in the log and within the required documentation system.
  3. Prepare programmatic and statistical reports as needed.
  4. Ensure the safety, appearance, and cleanliness of the residence. Conduct sanitation and safety inspections of all internal and external areas of the facility. Perform minor repairs and notify supervisors of potential major issues.
  5. Maintain a professional demeanor with colleagues, management, external agencies, etc.
  6. Be aware of clients' locations at all times and understand and implement all organizational policies and procedures governing operations, including medication administration, key control, following individual plans, evacuation, and emergency protocols, as well as compliance with licensing regulations and contracts.
  7. Promptly notify appropriate personnel regarding issues or unusual occurrences. Complete incident reports related to clients and/or worker compensation accurately and in a timely manner.
  8. Implement and adhere to all policies, procedures, and legal commitments to clients as mandated by relevant state and federal agencies.
  9. Fulfill assigned responsibilities and report on such duties during staff meetings as required.
  10. Act as an advocate and positive role model for clients, treating individuals with respect and dignity.
  11. Assist or provide necessary hygiene support for clients.
  12. Document all activities related to the welfare of the residence or clients on appropriate forms, including but not limited to:
    1. Client/Visitor movement to or from the residence.
    2. Unusual incidents involving clients, staff, or others affecting the residence.
    3. Medical emergencies, including seizures, medication administration, medication errors, and accidents.
    4. Significant changes in client behavior, whether positive or negative.
  13. Administer medications according to each client's medication schedule and organizational guidelines.
  14. Facilitate activities or programs (both internally and externally) for clients during each shift. Organize, supervise, and engage with clients from the residence and other group homes as needed.
  15. Provide counseling or reinforcement to assigned clients to address progress, challenges, interests, etc.
  16. Assist in supervising and safely transporting clients to community activities, day programs, social events, etc.
  17. Know and follow emergency procedures for various incidents affecting residents.
  18. Support guardians, parents, and others in understanding and implementing normalization and person-centered planning principles in interactions with clients.
  19. Report and respond immediately to any violation of individuals' rights directly to management. Participate in investigations as directed.
  20. Assist with shopping, meal preparation, setup, and cleanup when on duty.
  21. Attend training sessions, seminars, or other professional development opportunities provided by the organization. Provide training for staff as required. Actively participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
  22. Possess a thorough understanding of organizational policies and procedures.
  23. Perform other duties as assigned by the Residential Manager or upper management.
  24. Follow behavior support plans and document accordingly.

GENERAL FUNCTION:

The Community Support Instructor is responsible for the daily supervision of clients and the operation of programs. Ensures accurate and timely tracking of client progress. Implements all organizational policies and procedures related to the safety and welfare of clients and property, providing a fun, safe, and healthy environment for individuals.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum requirement of a High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  2. At least two years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or dual diagnoses. Experience may be substituted with education on a year-for-year basis.
  3. Valid driver's license and the ability to be insured by the organization's insurance provider throughout employment. Travel may be required in the course of daily work using organizational or personal vehicles.
  4. Excellent interpersonal skills are essential.
  5. Ability to obtain and maintain certifications in CPR, First Aid, PMT, and state medication administration.
  6. Capability to lift up to 75 pounds, transfer, and physically intervene with individuals as necessary.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

The Community Support Instructor is directly accountable to the Residential Manager or designated representative.
