Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Mentoring Program Coordinator plays a crucial role in the establishment, management, and execution of mentorship initiatives at assigned locations. This position is focused on building and maintaining relationships between mentors and mentees, ensuring the success of the program, and creating a nurturing atmosphere. The coordinator will collaborate closely with participants, site personnel, and community stakeholders to improve the quality and effectiveness of the mentoring process.

Qualifications:

  1. High School diploma or GED along with 12 units in Child Development or a related discipline is required. An Associate's degree in education, child development, or a related field is preferred.
  2. A minimum of two years of experience working with youth in a similar environment is necessary.
  3. Experience in collaborating with staff, volunteers, and school-aged children is advantageous.
  4. A valid driver's license in California is required for staff with regular driving responsibilities, and the driving record must comply with the agency's insurance criteria.

  2. Demonstrate a commitment to fulfilling job responsibilities in alignment with program and organizational objectives.
  3. Possess visual and auditory capabilities to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act in emergencies.
  4. Monitor behavior during program activities and manage general upkeep responsibilities.
  5. Engage professionally with children and adults.
  6. Communicate effectively with staff, children, agency officials, and the broader community.
  7. Exhibit a warm and friendly demeanor while being sensitive to the needs of a diverse population.
  8. Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive program information, including details about staff, clients, and collaborative partners.

Essential Functions:

  1. Design, oversee, and implement the program, including monthly objectives, activity calendars, daily schedules, and curriculum, in accordance with the goals and policies of Sierra Vista Child & Family Services.
  2. Ensure compliance of program mentors and mentees with all regulations, policies, and procedures of partnering agencies and Sierra Vista Child & Family Services.
  3. Adhere to established emergency protocols at all times to ensure the safety of participants and staff.
  4. Document all incidents and accidents accurately, ensuring appropriate communication with all relevant parties.
  5. Maintain comprehensive and current records, including attendance, absentees, and emergency information for all enrolled children, ensuring accuracy in sign-in/out logs.
  6. Provide regular guidance and direction to mentors, coordinating their schedules and monitoring attendance.
  7. Oversee daily program operations, including setup, planning, and site maintenance, which encompasses cleaning the designated mentoring area, sanitizing surfaces, and ensuring the security of facilities and equipment.
  8. Uphold a professional demeanor to maintain the image and mission of Sierra Vista Child & Family Services.
  9. Assist in the recruitment of mentors.
  10. Ensure infection prevention and control measures are in place.
  11. Foster a culture of quality and safety.

Additional Information:

  1. Participate in all required meetings and training sessions.
  2. Report any suspected abuse or neglect of children or dependent adults/elders immediately to the direct supervisor or follow the chain of command if the supervisor is unavailable.
  3. Notify the supervisor immediately of any client in imminent danger to themselves or others or who is gravely disabled, or follow the chain of command if the supervisor is unavailable.
  4. Perform other duties as assigned.
