Overview of Responsibilities
The Physics Department is seeking a Director of Instructional Laboratories to oversee the management, upkeep, and enhancement of equipment utilized in teaching laboratories.
Detailed Job Description
The Director of Instructional Lab will lead and mentor both undergraduate and graduate students in collaboration with faculty members. Interaction with on-campus fabrication specialists is anticipated. The role will necessitate engaging in physical tasks.
Key responsibilities encompass the oversight, maintenance, and innovation of apparatus for educational laboratories. The department provides instructional labs tailored for non-science majors, as well as courses in introductory algebra- and calculus-based physics, contemporary physics for sophomores, electronics, and advanced topics. Collaboration with course instructors is essential.
Essential Qualifications:
Required: A Bachelor's degree in physics or a related discipline; a solid understanding of physics principles.
Preference may be given to candidates holding a Master's degree or possessing significant relevant experience; familiarity with commercial instructional lab apparatus, soldering and electronics, computer-aided design, mechanical drafting, 3D printing, database management (e.g., Filemaker), and basic machining skills; strong communication abilities and pedagogical experience; adaptability, enthusiasm, and the capacity to collaborate effectively; as well as exceptional time management and organizational skills.
