Summary of Position:
This temporary (9-month) part-time role offers assistance in culinary production by supporting food preparation and various service tasks in dining, with the potential for up to 40 hours of work weekly. Responsibilities encompass the preparation of main dishes and soups, short order cooking, aiding in salad and bakery item preparation, dishwashing, and upkeep of service areas. Individuals in this role will encounter a variety of food types (e.g., shellfish, peanuts, & fruit) in an environment utilizing industrial-grade cleaning agents. Work hours may fluctuate, and on-call availability may be required. Employees are expected to engage with students, staff, faculty, and patrons; present a positive demeanor; and communicate effectively, demonstrating a commitment to excellent customer service and an understanding of customer needs. Individuals appointed as a Culinary Service Support Trainee (9-month) are not permitted to serve in this capacity beyond the 9-month term and cannot return to this position after the assignment concludes.

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered:
Familiarity with operating various commercial kitchen equipment, utensils, and machines is preferred. Six months of experience in commercial food preparation and kitchen operations is also preferred.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Assist fellow food service personnel as necessary.
Ensure that food is appealing and appetizing.
Prepare and handle food in accordance with safe food handling and sanitation protocols, adhering to departmental cleanliness standards.
Engage with customers and staff in a courteous, friendly manner.
Maintain equipment, cookware, utensils, and workspaces in a clean, organized, and sanitary condition, following departmental sanitation guidelines.
Minimize food waste and adhere to departmental sustainability practices.
Retrieve food items from storage areas.
Operate various kitchen equipment and utensils effectively.
Prepare food for service and ensure continuous food availability.
Follow recipes generated from the computerized menu management system for food preparation.
Address special dietary requests as needed.
Set up and maintain food preparation and serving areas in an attractive and sanitary manner.
Work various shifts, stations, and scheduled hours, including weekends and holidays, and be available for on-call duties.
Dispose of trash, break down cardboard boxes, and assist in recycling efforts.
Train and guide student employees in performing assigned duties. Carry out responsibilities in compliance with University policies and applicable laws.
Uphold safety and sanitation standards in all tasks.
Report to immediate supervisor and/or designated personnel.
Demonstrate an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, particularly in interactions with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Support and promote University initiatives for student enrollment and retention.
Perform any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
