Job Summary

The Veterinary Care Specialist at West Coast Animal Hospital provides high-quality medical and surgical care for animal patients and their owners. This role requires effective communication with clients and support staff, educating and engaging them in every aspect of patient care. The ideal candidate will present treatment plans tailored to each pet and family, offering multiple options for care. They must clarify the need for certain procedures/diagnostics during estimate or fee presentation. This veterinarian will be a leader, educator, and mentor to all staff and peers.

Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate care to patients and clients
  • Conduct physical exams, record observations, and evaluate and treat pets
  • Maintain accurate medical records and implement hospital vaccination and wellness protocols
  • Direct technical staff in positioning and technique for radiographs and interpret basic electrocardiograms
  • Perform basic ultrasonography and provide a detailed plan for patients admitted for care

Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM, VMD, or equivalent degree)
  • State of California Veterinary Medical License
  • DEA License (or ability to obtain one)
  • Clinical experience preferred, mentorship available for new graduates

Working Conditions

This role requires working in a fast-paced environment, lifting and carrying animals (with assistance), and being exposed to unpleasant odors, noises, and animal feces. The ideal candidate will be able to handle stressful situations, communicate effectively, and maintain a clean and orderly facility.
