We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Laboratory Technologist/Technician-Histology to join our team at Stony Brook Medicine. As a valued member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for providing clinical services to our patient population and adhering to all laboratory procedures and protocols.
Key Responsibilities- Paraffin and embed various tissue specimens, including biopsies, surgical specimens, placenta, autopsy, and research tissue.
- Perform paraffin microtomy techniques, including the use of the microtome to produce 2-5 micron sections.
- Stain, coverslip, and case assemble, label, and distribute all prepared histology sections.
- Follow all appropriate protocols for LIS systems, including Copath, Ventana Benchmark, Ultra, Symphony, Vantage, and Copath.
- Complete routine and special requests for additional levels, recuts, special stains, and immunohistochemistry requests, verifying each upon completion in Copath and documenting for QA purposes.
- Perform the battery of special stains and immunohistochemistry used in diagnostic histopathology.
- Rotate responsibility for the above and perform necessary maintenance of all laboratory instrumentation, including changing instrument reagents.
- Responsible for QA documentation, including maintenance and temperature logs, to be performed on a daily basis.
- Assist Pathologists by grossing biopsy specimens as assigned.
- BS degree in biology, medical technology, or other life sciences, or an AAS degree from an accredited program in Histotechnology.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills are essential for this position.
- HT (ASCP) or eligible.
The starting salary range for this position is $94,516 - $119,868. In addition, all UUP positions have an additional $3,400 for location, and some positions offer shift differentials for Night ($15,000) & Evening ($10,000) as well as $575 for inconvenience for positions not on day shift.
