Job Summary

The Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Physician Section Chief for Substance Use Disorders to lead our Substance Use Disorders programs within the VA Medical Center. As a key member of our leadership team, you will provide clinical, administrative, and supervisory expertise to ensure the delivery of high-quality care to Veterans with substance use disorders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical leadership and direction for the Substance Use Disorders programs, ensuring compliance with VA policies, federal regulations, and accreditation standards.
  • Oversee the safe and effective use of medication-assisted treatments (MAT) for opioid use disorder, including methadone and buprenorphine.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic, Veteran-centered care.
  • Supervise addiction psychiatrists and other SUD treatment providers within the facility.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback to ensure quality improvement and excellence in care delivery.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate evidence-based treatment protocols and initiatives for substance use disorders.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including documentation standards, accreditation, and federal and VA policies.
  • Monitor clinical outcomes and performance measures related to SUD care, ensuring continuous quality improvement.
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must have a degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • Must have a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
Preferred Experience

Board certification in Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatry is preferred. Unrestricted medical license to practice in the U.S. and strong communication, leadership, and administrative skills are also preferred.
