Job Description

The Department of Family and Social Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center is seeking a visionary leader to shape the future direction of our Family Medicine Residency Program. As the Director of Family Medicine Residency Program, you will be responsible for ensuring excellence in resident training, supporting faculty in teaching and scholarship, and providing clinical services addressing the health care needs of the Bronx.

The ideal candidate will have experience as a Core Faculty, Associate Director, or Director of a Family Medicine Residency Training Program. They will be Board Certified in Family Medicine, meet the ACGME requirements for Family Medicine Program Director, and have a minimum of three years of experience in administrative, educational, and/or clinical services in an ACGME-accredited residency program.

The Director will oversee daily operations of the residency program, plan to continually evaluate and revise systems for daily operations, documentation, and communication to improve efficiency and effectiveness. They will also be responsible for recruiting high-quality residents, reviewing and revising recruitment strategy and process, and retaining high-quality residents.

The successful candidate will develop and recruit strong faculty and residents, advance collaborative relationships with academic and community partners, and maintain high-quality educational curriculum and experiential rotations per ACGME requirements. They will also lead the recruitment, selection, and ongoing mentoring and development of faculty physicians and staff, and ensure effective program partnerships with hospitals, clinics, and staff.

The Director will facilitate faculty and resident participation in scholarly activities, maintain ongoing clinical duties, and be responsible for operational management, including budget preparation, experience in administrative support of a department, and demonstrated ability to manage detailed projects.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching and learning, integrate the biopsychosocial model and social justice advocacy, and demonstrate excellent interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure ongoing maintenance of certification and compliance with ACGME requirements
  • Knowledge and expertise in ACGME policies, rules, and procedures
  • Review, revise, and evaluate total curriculum systematically
  • Supervise and assist with implementation of didactic curriculum
  • Plan and implement July Orientation Month for Interns
  • Plan and implement Spring Residency Retreat
  • Oversee daily operations of residency program
  • Recruit high-quality residents
  • Review and revise recruitment strategy and process
  • Retain high-quality residents
  • Assess and address residents' and chief residents' satisfaction and needs
  • Provide ongoing personal support to residents and chief residents
  • Assist faculty and residents directly with assessing individual learning needs and implementing individual learning plans
  • Resident competency evaluation twice yearly for every resident
  • Remediation of residents with deficiencies
  • Oversee and coordinate resident rotation schedules
  • Precept residents weekly
  • Teaching Attending minimum 4 weeks on Family Medicine inpatient unit

  • Faculty support - including recognizing faculty achievements and personal events
  • Oversee resident practices to ensure ACGME requirements are met and balance between service and education is appropriate
  • Oversee faculty practices to ensure balance between teaching and patient care is appropriate
  • Maintain a continuity family medicine practice
