We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Credit Manager to join our Accounting team at Reeder Distributors, Inc.
The primary purpose of this role is to be the administrator and enforcer of the Company's credit policy. This position is responsible for the overall management of the Credit Department, including the development and improvement of operational goals, staffing, training, and development of department staff.
In performing this job, the employee will have access to highly confidential information, which must not be copied or shared with anyone other than those authorized by management. The execution of this position requires the exercise of discretion and independent judgment.
Key Responsibilities:- Financial Analysis: Investigate and verify the financial status and reputation of prospective customers applying for credit, prepare documents to substantiate findings, and make credit term decisions based on said findings.
- Debt Collection: Perform collections of outstanding balances on multiple lines of business, coordinating with sales representatives and other company personnel, while providing excellent customer service.
- Credit Management: Set up credit fields on customer accounts and maintain the master customer file, ensuring that all customer credit data is recorded, filed, and entered in the database accordingly, including verification and documentation of customer taxability.
- Credit Limitations: Establish credit limitations on customer accounts and handle special credit arrangements and deviations from standard terms of payment.
- Customer Relations: Directly manage the Company's largest and highest risk customer accounts to maintain positive customer relations and optimize collection and bad debt results.
- Credit Reviews: Perform routine credit reviews of existing customers to substantiate credit terms and communicate with management accordingly.
- Customer Inquiries: Respond to credit inquiries on customers.
- Order Review: Review and release orders in a timely manner based on customer history, knowledge about the customer, and overall experienced judgment. Communicate with the customer, sales rep, and management (if applicable) if any delivery hold is deemed necessary.
- Bad Debt Status: Audit delinquent accounts considered to be uncollectible to ensure adequate efforts have been taken before recommending bad debt status on an account.
- Collection Agencies: Place accounts with collection agencies and attorneys as necessary.
- Credit Reference: Establish and maintain good relations with credit managers of competitors and similar companies within our marketing areas for credit reference purposes.
- Performance Reporting: Compile performance information and present at management meetings as directed by local management.
- Credit Policy: Assist management in the formulation of credit policies.
- Monthly Reports: Prepare and manage the monthly credit call process.
- Team Leadership: Lead, direct, evaluate, and develop a growing team of credit and collections staff to ensure that the credit and collections activities are conducted effectively and ethically and comply with the Company's Employee Handbook as well as relevant regulations and laws.
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or commensurate experience.
- Experience: Six years of credit and/or collection experience.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to use tact and skill in dealing with other staff, management, and customers.
- Accounting Software: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and accounting software.
- Flexibility: Flexibility to receive and initiate phone calls before or after normal business hours as needed.
Candidates must pass a background check and drug screen prior to hiring.
