Position Overview

Under the guidance of the Shipping Supervisor, the Logistics Operations Supervisor is responsible for organizing, packing, and preparing customer shipments. This role involves receiving materials and equipment, as well as loading and unloading trucks in accordance with established protocols and shipping regulations, ensuring timely delivery to customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • This list of responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be expanded as necessary by management.
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of team members within the logistics department.
  • Retrieve orders from inventory or staging areas and prepare products for dispatch to clients.
  • Verify that customer orders and products are accurate; package items securely to prevent damage during transit.
  • Possess carpentry skills to design and build shipping crates; experience with power tools and ability to read measuring instruments is essential.
  • Communicate with carriers for less-than-truckload (LTL) and dedicated flatbed shipments, scheduling pickups to meet delivery timelines.
  • Utilize overhead cranes and forklifts to load outgoing products and unload incoming materials.
  • Inspect incoming materials and ensure that bills of lading are accurate, confirming the quantity and quality of received goods.
  • Label packages appropriately, including any special handling instructions required by the carrier.
  • Complete and maintain all necessary documentation, entering shipment details into the management log.
  • Uphold cleanliness and organization standards within the department.

Education and Experience

A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with one to three months of relevant experience to become familiar with equipment and processes.

Basic to intermediate proficiency in computer skills, including shipping documents, drawings, bills of materials, and MS Office applications.

Language Skills

Ability to read and understand simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Capability to write basic correspondence and effectively present information in small group settings.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations and interpret data in various formats, including graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense to follow detailed instructions and address problems with a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle objects, reach above shoulders, and communicate. The employee may occasionally need to climb, stoop, kneel, or crawl, and must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
