Role: OB Hospitalist - Certified Nurse Midwife

Employment Type: Per Diem

Facility: AdventHealth Orlando

General Responsibilities:

  • Assess and manage care for pregnant and postpartum patients in triage settings.
  • Execute nursing responsibilities associated with midwifery, including labor, delivery, and postnatal care.
  • Provide education to women regarding available care options and promote active involvement in their pregnancy journey.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, integrating findings into patient care plans while evaluating their effectiveness.
  • Develop accurate diagnoses based on comprehensive patient assessments.
  • Deliver care in accordance with established policies and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the OB/GYN team to ensure optimal outcomes for mothers and infants.
  • Prescribe appropriate therapies within the scope of practice.
  • Prioritize patient education and foster clear communication to enhance the healthcare experience.
  • Encourage family involvement and education regarding childbirth and infant care.
  • Document and communicate relevant patient information efficiently.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong understanding of midwifery principles and practices.
  • Ability to maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Familiarity with family dynamics, attachment theories, and adult learning principles.

Work Schedule:

This position operates on an as-needed basis, with schedules provided three months in advance. Participation in holiday rotations is expected.

Education and Experience:

  • Master's Degree in Nursing with a focus on Midwifery.
  • 1-3 years of experience as a midwife in a hospital environment.
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a registered nurse, particularly in high-risk labor and delivery settings.

Licensure and Certification:

  • Certification from an accredited Nurse Midwifery program.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
  • DEA Licensure is preferred but not mandatory.
