Role: OB Hospitalist - Certified Nurse Midwife
Employment Type: Per Diem
Location: AdventHealth Orlando
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and manage the care of pregnant and postpartum patients in triage settings.
- Execute nursing responsibilities related to midwifery, including labor, delivery, and postnatal care.
- Provide education to patients regarding available care options and promote active involvement in their pregnancy journey.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests, integrating findings into comprehensive care plans.
- Develop accurate diagnoses based on thorough assessments and clinical evaluations.
- Deliver care in accordance with established policies and guidelines.
- Collaborate with the OB/GYN team to ensure optimal health outcomes for mothers and infants.
- Prescribe appropriate therapies, both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic, within the scope of practice.
- Foster patient education and engagement, ensuring clear communication and personalized care experiences.
- Advocate for family involvement in birth education and natural childbirth practices.
- Instruct patients on infant care, including breastfeeding and bonding techniques.
- Document and communicate relevant patient information accurately and promptly.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Understanding of midwifery principles and practices.
- Awareness of safety protocols to maintain a secure environment for patients and staff.
- Familiarity with family dynamics, mother-child relationships, and adult learning theories.
Work Schedule:
This position operates on an as-needed basis, with schedules available three months in advance. Participation in holiday rotations is required.
Education and Experience:
- Master's Degree in Nursing with a focus on Midwifery.
- 1-3 years of experience as a midwife in a hospital environment.
- A minimum of three years of experience as a registered nurse, including labor and delivery in a high-risk setting.
Licensure and Certification:
- Certification from an accredited Nurse Midwifery program.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
- DEA Licensure is preferred but not mandatory.
