Position Overview:
The selected candidate will be responsible for executing daily care tasks for laboratory animals, which include monitoring health, providing husbandry, and ensuring thorough cleaning and sanitation protocols are followed.
It is essential to foster and maintain positive relationships with colleagues and clients, demonstrate the ability to work autonomously, and uphold consistent attendance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducts animal husbandry activities to ensure the health and quality of research animals, including daily feeding, watering, enrichment, and necessary cage or room sanitation.
- Performs daily cleaning of designated animal rooms, isolator environments, care equipment, and related facility areas.
- Keeps precise records regarding animal health and welfare.
- Aids in the handling and manipulation of animals as per SOPs and protocols.
- Utilizes equipment and supplies in accordance with safety guidelines, engages in general housekeeping, and adheres to safety regulations.
- Maintains required attendance and adheres to the work schedule to ensure completion of assigned duties, including weekend and holiday shifts on a rotational basis.
- Prioritizes animal welfare by reporting any concerns to management or relevant personnel.
- Ensures compliance with animal welfare standards, maintaining facilities and equipment for internal inspections and accreditation requirements.
- Conducts euthanasia procedures as trained, following AVMA guidelines and completing all necessary documentation.
- Assists in the management and replenishment of inventory.
- Takes initiative in completing tasks and anticipates future needs.
- Demonstrates the ability to work independently.
- Exhibits strong attention to detail.
- Education – Associate's degree preferred.
- Experience – Previous experience with laboratory animals or in agricultural settings is advantageous.
Additional Information:
- Candidates are prohibited from owning poultry or swine.
- Must be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs, maneuvering heavy objects, and working in varying temperatures.
- Exposure to unpleasant odors, aerosols, dust, animal dander, and noise is expected.
- Multiple showers may be necessary for biocontainment, including hair washing.
- Compliance with personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements is mandatory, including Tyveks, hairnets, respirators or PAPRs, gloves, safety glasses, uniforms, and shoes.
- An enhanced background check will be conducted as part of the onboarding process.
- A FIT test will be required prior to accessing Vivarium areas.
