Job Opportunity

Cornwallis Road Animal Hospital is seeking a dedicated and experienced Veterinary Technician or Assistant to join our team in Durham. We prioritize high-quality medicine and foster a collaborative environment where our team members can grow and thrive.

This role requires at least one year of veterinary experience as an assistant or technician. We encourage our veterinary technicians to work to the top of their license and provide opportunities for continuous learning. We offer tuition assistance to Penn Foster for veterinary assistants interested in becoming credentialed technicians.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist veterinarians during examinations, providing restraint as needed to ensure safe and effective care.
  • Prepare and administer medications, vaccines, serums, and treatments as prescribed by veterinarians.
  • Perform routine dental cleanings on animals under the direction of veterinarians.
  • Administer anesthesia to animals under the direction of veterinarians and monitor their responses to anesthetics.
  • Obtain radiographs of animals with knowledge of proper positioning and techniques.
  • Care for and monitor the condition of animals recovering from surgery.
  • Perform laboratory tests on blood, urine, and feces to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of animal health problems.
  • Administer emergency first aid, such as performing emergency resuscitation or other life-saving procedures.
  • Collect, prepare, and label samples for laboratory testing, culture, or microscopic examination.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments, equipment, and materials.
  • Provide veterinarians with the correct equipment and instruments as needed.
  • Fill prescriptions, measure medications, and label containers.
  • Prepare animals for surgery, performing tasks such as shaving surgical areas and placing IV catheters.
  • Maintain clean examination rooms and treatment areas.
  • Work collaboratively with veterinarians to ensure that all animals receive proper care and move through the system efficiently.
  • Utilize active listening, critical thinking, complex problem-solving, time management, judgment, and decision-making skills.
