Position Summary:

The Senior Electrician for Residential Services is tasked with overseeing and executing all service-related activities with minimal supervision. This role requires the ability to operate both autonomously and collaboratively within a service team. Key responsibilities encompass preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, electrical diagnostics, module upkeep, adherence to safety protocols, and innovation in processes. A solid background in electrical installations, solar electrical systems, and customer engagement is essential. This position primarily functions independently, with occasional collaboration with a field manager as necessary.

Travel Requirements:

This role may necessitate travel and overnight stays, contingent upon project locations within the designated region.

Emergency Response:

There will be instances requiring prompt action, such as 24-hour responses to system malfunctions. It is anticipated that the O&M Technician may be called to work during weekends, scheduled time off, evenings, or holidays to address troubleshooting and repairs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose, maintain, service, and repair residential and commercial solar systems and related equipment to ensure complete customer satisfaction.
  • Engage with clients and colleagues professionally, demonstrating the ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic team.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance through both physical and visual inspections.
  • Implement corrective maintenance on residential and commercial solar systems.
  • Provide remote on-site customer support, including installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and repair of solar systems and associated equipment.
  • Execute full system commissioning independently.
  • Utilize a multimeter and SunEye for diagnosing solar issues.
  • Perform meter swaps and replacements.
  • Conduct SunEye tests on solar systems and comprehensive underperformance investigations.
  • Manage system deactivations and reactivations.
  • Complete standard reporting, including uploading images and compiling written reports to company standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of warehouse/storage units.
  • Gather necessary materials for scheduled tasks with minimal guidance.
  • Oversee the check-in and return of materials, capable of executing the full RMA process.
  • Identify required parts for standard scopes of work.
  • Organize inventory and conduct material counts.
  • Facilitate like-for-like inverter replacements without monitoring.
  • Safely unload and load vehicles as per equipment used.
  • Correctly install flashings and mounts on roofs.
  • Review schedules and execute standard scopes of work as needed with minimal guidance.
  • Complete daily ADP timecards and weekly job expense reports.
  • Ensure the company vehicle is adequately stocked with materials for service tasks.
  • Transport materials to job sites necessary for completing service work.

Qualifications:

  • Master Electrician License required in the State of New York.
  • A minimum of 12,000 hours (6 years) of practical electrical experience, including at least 4,000 hours (2 years) as a journeyman electrician.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and the ability to pass a driving background check.
  • Proven expertise in Residential Solar Commissioning or Installation.
  • Familiarity with the NEC and applicable codes and standards is essential.
  • 1+ years of Residential Solar O&M experience required.
  • 3+ years of Residential Solar Installation experience required.
  • 3+ years of previous field construction experience required.
  • Prior experience in the solar industry is mandatory.
  • Must exhibit motivation as a team player, striving for success.
  • PV design or PV Electrical experience is required.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Professional demeanor and interaction.
  • Strong computer proficiency.
  • Ability to drive to multiple sites throughout the day.
  • Ability to work independently and make informed safety decisions.
  • Capability to operate office equipment and ensure work accuracy.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work on rooftops with various angles and surfaces, necessitating frequent bending, twisting, squatting, climbing, kneeling, crawling, turning, standing, and balancing.
  • Capability to work in confined spaces requiring kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders.
  • Ability to endure outdoor weather conditions, including excessive noise, extreme heat, extreme cold, wet environments, and humidity.
  • Frequent use of hand functions requiring fine motor skills, including manipulation, grasping, and pinching.
  • Frequent use of gross motor skills, including pushing, pulling, and reaching.
  • Occasional lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 80 pounds, such as inverters or ladders.

Desired Qualifications:

  • NABCEP Certification.
  • Prior experience in Residential and/or Commercial Solar O&M (service).
  • Experience in maintaining and servicing solar monitoring systems (e.g., SunPower Monitoring, Locus, Itron, Elster, Enphase, and other remote monitoring solutions).
  • Experience in maintaining and servicing solar inverters/micro-inverters (e.g., SMA, PowerOne, Fronius, Aurora, LG, Enphase).
