POSITION DESCRIPTION:

As a skilled Diagnostic Imaging Specialist, you will be responsible for performing high-quality computed tomography (CT) scans and other diagnostic imaging procedures. You will work closely with radiologists and other healthcare professionals to ensure accurate diagnoses and effective patient care.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Demonstrate proficiency in the operation of CT scanners and other diagnostic imaging equipment.

• Verify patient information and ensure accurate identification prior to each procedure.

• Explain procedures to patients and answer questions in a clear and concise manner.

• Prepare and enter written documentation as required by the Department, including informed consents and patient chart documentation.

• Transport patients to and from radiographic areas and ensure their safety and comfort during procedures.

• Send images to the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) and evaluate images for technical quality.

• Perform portable and operating room/CT examinations in a professional and timely manner.

• Demonstrate proficiency in dealing with patients of all age groups and address their special needs as required.

• Maintain established Department policies and procedures, including those related to radiation safety and bio-safety.

• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of new procedures and protocols as needed.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Graduate or equivalent.

• Graduate of a Radiology Program and NYSDOH License required.

• ARRT certification and CT certification preferred.

• Current BLS provider certification from the American Heart Association required.

• Computer knowledge preferred.

• Special Notes: Bachelors degree preferred.

• Stony Brook Medicine is a smoke-free environment. Smoking is strictly prohibited anywhere on campus, including parking lots and outdoor areas on the premises.

• This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection, which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair.

This function/position may be designated as 'essential.' This means that when the Hospital is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook University Hospital and related facilities.

Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements:

Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services.

Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.

Successfully complete a 4-panel drug screen.

Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.

Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.

The hiring department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination.
